1. Who we are
Closure is an application designed to help individuals and families organize estate-related information and navigate bereavement-related tasks. This privacy policy applies to the Closure app and the website located at closureapp.ca.
For questions about this policy, please contact us at info@closureapp.ca.
2. Information you may store in Closure
Closure does not require an account and does not transmit your estate data to any server operated by us. The app allows you to enter and manage information that may include personal and sensitive information, such as:
- Names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and other contact information
- Date of birth and other identifying details
- Insurance information
- Financial account details and institution information
- Estate notes, instructions, and planning information
- Locations of important documents such as a will, powers of attorney, or insurance records
This information is stored locally on your device and may also be synced through your personal iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit framework if iCloud is enabled for Closure.
Your Closure data is associated with your Apple ID for iCloud sync purposes, but it is not stored on any server operated by Closure. We do not have access to, and cannot retrieve, your data.
This website (closureapp.ca) is a static site. We do not use cookies, analytics scripts, tracking pixels, or similar technologies on the site.
3. How information is handled
Closure is designed so that estate data remains under your control. We do not receive, store, review, analyze, or sell the information you enter into the app.
The app’s core functionality operates locally on your device. Where iCloud sync is enabled, data is transmitted between your device and Apple’s iCloud infrastructure, not to Closure-operated servers.
If you make a purchase through the Apple App Store, that transaction is handled by Apple and governed by Apple’s own terms and privacy policies.
4. Data sharing
Closure does not sell, share, rent, or disclose your personal information to advertising networks, analytics providers, data brokers, or other third parties.
Because we do not collect or store your estate data on our own systems, we do not have user data available to share.
5. iCloud and data synchronization
Closure uses Apple’s CloudKit framework to support syncing across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac when iCloud is enabled for the app.
When iCloud sync is enabled:
- Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account
- Data is transmitted directly between your device and Apple’s infrastructure
- Closure does not operate the sync infrastructure
- Closure does not have access to your iCloud data
Apple’s handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple’s own terms, policies, and security model. You can manage iCloud settings for Closure through your device settings under your Apple ID and iCloud preferences.
6. Exported files
Closure allows you to export your data. All export processing occurs on your device.
Encrypted export (.closure format) uses AES-256-GCM via Apple CryptoKit. The encryption key is derived from your chosen password using PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 with 100,000 iterations, together with a random salt and nonce. We do not know or store your export password.
PDF export uses password-protected PDF encryption provided by Apple frameworks. The security of any exported file after export depends on how and where you choose to store, transmit, or share it.
7. On-device processing
Some features may use on-device processing, such as text recognition or similar Apple-provided capabilities. Where those features are used, processing occurs locally on your device through Apple frameworks.
Closure does not send that content to developer-controlled servers for processing.
8. Children’s privacy
Closure is intended for adults managing estate planning or bereavement-related matters. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Because Closure does not collect or store estate data on developer-operated systems, we do not maintain user data records in the ordinary course of operation.
9. Canadian privacy compliance
Closure is operated with Canadian users in mind, including PIPEDA principles relating to transparency, safeguarding, and user control.
Because Closure does not store your estate data on servers we control, control over your information remains primarily with you on your device and within your personal iCloud account.
10. Data retention and deletion
Your data remains on your device and, if enabled, in your iCloud account until you delete it.
You can remove your information by deleting entries within the app, deleting the app from your device, or managing data associated with Closure through your iCloud settings.
Closure retains no copy of your estate data on developer-controlled systems.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
Because we do not collect contact information for app accounts, we may not be able to provide direct notice of policy changes. Please review this page periodically for updates.
